We had a our monthly meeting today and had the opportunity to talk with Barry Adams, our current President and CEO of the HAO. We discussed many changes the University has taken to move UH to a Tier 1 school and Barry has joined us to help the efforts with the HAO constituent groups, like us, the NSM Alumni Association (NSMAA). A few questions came up around the room and I wanted to get some feedback from who ever reads this post.

1. Have you even heard about at the HAO?
2. Are a member of the HAO? If not, why?
3. Are you interested in joining and participating? If not, why?

Here are my answers...

1. Not at all until I went to a CougarCS meeting to talk about the RoboCode competition at JPMorganChase. Here, Danny introduced us to the NSMAA scholarships given out each year. This year alone, we gave over $50,000 distributed equally among the colleges of the NSM.
2. I paid for a one-year membership after my first year membership was up. I just recently signed up myself for a lifetime membership.
3. I was interested the instant I joined a board meeting. I've been the Treasurer for about a year and this is what prompted me to give something back to UH. Besides, I am where I because I'm went to UH.

Getting Involved Again.

So I've been meaning to get back on the HDNUG and AgileHouston train again for a while. A series of recent events finally made me get up and get involved again.

Last week, James and Ben (GO COOGS!) went to the ALT.NET conference in Seattle along with a long list of very famous people. I envy you two, hehe.

Yesterday, James and I had a short talk about how to get something started in his new found home, Ellensburg, Washington. He's a bit far from Seattle to get drive to the events, so he's looking for help. Today, I emailed Chris Koenig about helping James out with his connections. Within minutes, I get a response with a "handy-dandy" link and a few contacts...AWESOME.

This morning, my boss emails me about a free local event in Houston on May 7, 2008 on the "State of .NET" that we'll be attending.

Good fun. I'm ready, bring it.

Oh yeah, I'll be attending MMS this year in Vegas along with the SecureVantage team!

Tailgating for Homecoming
November 17, 2007
We will join with the TKE Alumni Network, the Communications Alumni and the Honors College Alumni for a great tailgating party. This FREE event will include BBQ with all of the trimmings. Look for us in the Alumni Tailgating area, on the Scott St side of the Robertson Stadium. Please join us in cheering on our Coogs! No RSVP or game ticket required to attend the tailgating.

Annual Gathering of Friends @ Haak Winery
April 5, 2008
Join us for an evening of wine tasting, a sumptuous Italian dinner, a tour of the winery and an engaging speaker. The ticket price will be $20 per person.
